DIY Denim: Stud Muffin

As a total "outcast by choice" in high school, I always wanted to out do my classmates with weird and wacky clothing. Because I had a minimum wage job as a hostess at a small restaurant, the clothing I so desired wasn't exactly accessible. So I resorted to what has become one of my absolute favorite pastimes- DIY vintage. I'm so excited that tons of the trends I'm into this season are completely doable with some thrifted or vintage items tweeked just enough to give them a new edge. DIY is so much fun because a) you get to have complete control over the design, b) it's cheaper and c) it's more fun, duh!
This week I decided to work with denim! I recently purchased this acid wash cap (actually a F21 buy) and a pair of oversized mom jeans (soon to be cutoffs) from a local vintage shop in Oakland called Mercy Vintage. I purchased a pack of studs on ebay, grabbed a beer and put on Dazed and Confused. I was ready to get down!
There are several types of studs you can buy online- some easier to use than others. One kind of stud has four legs with sharp edges that can easily pierce thin(er) fabric. I bought a different kind that just has a single spike in the back. These require a bigger hole (which I cut with a combination of a WAY sharper 1" stud and a knife) but I do think they'll last longer because you have to screw them in for the last bit so they don't easily come out. Also, depending on how good (or not good) you are at eyeballing space, grab a ruler or measuring tape to space out your studs evenly. Or not, as I did with the cap. Depends what look you're going for.
It takes a bit of time, and my hands were quite sore, but voila! Excited to rock some new stuff!

Rainbow Brite

Happy beginning of another work week to you all! I'm am hoping to fix my "case of the mondays" by flashing back to this weekend (one of the best ones I've had this year!) and of course lovin' this amazing bay area weather.
As an LA to SF transplant I deeply desire to wear shorts and/or skirts pretty much 90% of the year. (Pants?! Who needs them?) So as soon as the fog rolls its gorgeous but freezing self over those luscious hills back to the ocean, I am ready to celebrate with some leg. I have been super stoked on the 90s rainbow look thats so fiercely back in my life and decided to pair it with my favorite oversized, acid wash "Hi, I look like the Olsen twins in Full House" jacket. (The lucite shoe detail that is popping up all over JC and Unif is also amazing-hence the illusion of no shoes in the above photo).  This post is also special because not only did I get to spend my Sunday with my lovely bestie Jenn of fashionandfringe.com but we took a break from our usual photo taker boys and photographed each other! Blogger callab heyyyy.
Besides stripping my white legs for some time in the sun this weekend, I was pleased to meet Melody of Isobell Jewelry @ the 7 year anniversary party @ Pretty Penny in Oakland on Friday. She hand makes her line and I picked up these adorable daisy earrings! In love!

Visitors from Mars

Crop Top- Declaredclothing.com; Maxi- thrifted; Denim Shirt- H&M; Pleather Jacket- H&M; Beanie- Gypsy Warrior; Boots- Doc Martens, Nordstroms

This shoot hardly counts... because I was basically en route for the best vegan dogs of all time- Rosemunde (well, in SF Bay, anyway). I brought along the camera and made mah man take some photos. So what, boo?

Notes:
A) LOVE this crop top from declared clothing. I'm an alien so why not sport it??!!
B) Thrifting has been cool since before Macklemore (or wtf?) said it was. This maxi is pretty much a 4 day a week wear. Best 6$ I ever spent.
C) Beanies are hard to wear before they stretch out. Just an FYI.

Have a fun week kids! My Monday went well- hope yours did, too!  xoxox

Cowabunga, dude!

Bart Simpson Top- Ebay; Ear Cuff- H&M

This was a real quick shoot Robby and I did on our usual Friday outfit post day. One thing I haven't yet mentioned about Robby is that he's a real awesome hairdresser. He works @ Artbeat Salon and Gallery in North Berkeley as well as doing freelance editorial shoots for local mags like BayFashionMagazine (To check out his work click here). So when I wanted an over-the-top Bjork meets Gwen hair look I asked him to handle that sh!t for me. I'm happy with the results. One other note about this post is the lip color. I'm wearing this look like errrryday. It's MAC (of course) "Vino" lipliner with "Feeling so Good" lipglass from the Archie Collection- which BTW is FAB if you haven't already checked it out.

Have a good weekend kiddos!

Sk8er Gurl

Yin/Yang Tank- H&M; Cut-offs- Vintage Levi's; Socks- Gap; Platforms- Deena&Ozzy, UO

I must start off with the hard truth, this girl can't skate. I've tried for years and balance is just not my friend. Athletic endeavors that take place on the ground? I can do that. But once I'm even 4" off the ground I have lost all sense of physics. With that being said, I have always been the girl around the skater kids and now it's no different. Rob (the hubby) recently bought his first complete in 5(ish) years. I got so excited that I demanded to borrow it- isn't it rad!? Alien Workshop with some pretty sweet spitfire wheels that you may or may not be able to see in a few of the photos. (Ok, I looked and you cant see them)
Since I decided to incorporate a skateboard, I pretty much pulled the sportiest stuff I have because quite frankly I've been a maxi skirt kinda girl as of late. But here it is for my and hopefully your enjoyment. PEACE OUT.

Sprung on Spring

Overalls- Ebay; Camo Crop Top- Thrifted; Floral Headband- UO; Sunnies- Etsy; Boots- Sketchers, Thrifted

So here is my first official blog post. Thank goodness my loving husband doesn't mind taking the time to take some shots of me before work. This was actually a few weeks ago, so I'm not completely sure where my head was at the time. Some things I'm still contemplating about this outfit are A) I LOVE OVERALLS but I must admit it took awhile for me to bust these out despite having them sitting around for weeks. A friend of mine said he doesn't think they're cool yet. I say.. so what? If UNIF can do it so can I!!! But.. it still took me awhile to feel comfy outside my living room. B) The floral headband thing is blowing up, but I'm totally digging it. C) I'm so stoked that we're creeping into spring! As a bay area resident (renter of Oakland, employee of San Francisco) spring is still a rainy not very sunny time of year. However we are getting some warm hours in and this outfit post happened on one of those lucky days. Lets get ready for BBQs (or at least daydream of veggie dogs)!
